Canberra Nara Candle Festival
Each year in spring the community celebrates Canberra's sister city releationship with Nara, Japan. The Canberra Nara Candle Festival, held in Canberra's Japanese garden, Canberra Nara Park, features entertainment, Japanese cuisine, cultural activities and a stunning display of more than 2000 candles.

Future Celebrations
Nara's history will be in the spotlight in 2010, when the city celebrates the 1300th anniversary of the establishment of the Heijo capital in Nara. From 710 - 784 AD, Nara was the imperial capital of Japan. An exciting program of celebratory events will focus attention on Nara's world heritage status.
On 12 March 2013 Canberra will celebrate 100 years since it was named as the National Capital of Australia. This will be a significant national occasion for Australia. Planning is underway for a year of memorable celebrations.
