Daylight Saving and Public Holidays in the ACT


The ACT's Daylight Saving arrangements are in line with New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

The Daylight Saving period in the ACT commences on the first Sunday in October and finishes on the first Sunday in April.

* An additional public holiday is declared for Sunday, 25 April 2021 under section 3(1)(b) of the Holidays Act 1951.
**As 25 April (ANZAC Day) falls on a Sunday in 2021, the following Monday is observed as the public holiday.
***As 25 December (Christmas Day) falls on a Saturday in 2021, there is an additional public holiday on the Monday.
****As 26 December (Boxing Day) falls on a Sunday in 2021, there is an additional public holiday on the Tuesday.
The Holidays Act 1958 also provides for bank holidays in the ACT. In addition to the above public holidays, there is a bank holiday on the first Monday in August. Bank holidays do not apply to everyone. Employers and employees are advised to check the Holidays Act 1958 for all bank holidays and refer to their relevant Enterprise Agreement or Award.
