Pillar: Data
Lead directorate: CSD

Overview

Our family safety initiatives aim to improve how families with lived experiences of domestic and family violence are supported using better data collection and automation of reporting.

Benefits

By automating currently manual reporting processes, there is opportunity to free up staff to focus on supporting victims of family violence. Richer data on domestic violence can be used to provide insights into the characteristics and trends of domestic violence in the ACT; supporting improvements in the policy and service responses.

Status update

DateUpdate
March 2021

Work is continuing to identify data which would contribute to understanding family and domestic violence, given that there is no single dataset, and information about peoples experiences of family and domestic violence are distributed across all the datasets of the ACT Government, as well as other services.

The ACT Government will provide $813,000 between 2019 and 2023 to fund a Family Violence Death Review. The Death Review will analyse information relating to domestic and family violence deaths in the ACT and make recommendations for system-wide improvements to services to prevent similar deaths occurring in the future. - Family Violence Death Review – National Plan to Reduce Violence against Women and their Children (dss.gov.au)

A significant project was undertaken to hear the voices of children and young people about domestic and family violence. The report can be found here: Insights from children and young people (act.gov.au)
