Calls received on air

Directorate: TCCS & CSD

Issue: (i) Seniors Playgrounds; (ii) support for “Silver Screenings” program.

Outcome: A representative from the Office for Veterans and Seniors rang the caller and provided the following information:

The caller was also contacted by a TCCS officer who discussed the caller’s suggestions and ideas about a new senior’s playground for Canberra. The Age Friendly Suburbs project in Page and Hughes were also discussed. The caller was satisfied with these discussions and no further follow up is required.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Streetlight out in Bardlsey Pl, Holt.

Outcome: Repairs to the streetlight were completed on 9 October 2017.

Directorate: EPSDD (Parks and conservation)

Issue: Wants to know about spraying blackberries.

Outcome: The caller wanted to know when blackberry on NCA, Zoo and Arboretum land would be sprayed. The officer explained that it was currently not a high priority as higher conservation value areas required attention first, ie. Nature reserves and Namadgi/Tidbinbilla.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Bus services in the inner south – in particular one service up a steep hill has been removed/changed.

Outcome: The Route 5 will no longer be serviced in the new timetable. However, Route 4 now travels through Narrabundah to Canberra Factory Outlet Centre, Fyshwick and to the City via Manuka, Kingston, Barton and King Edward Terrace. These changes will improve access to high frequency public transport to South Canberra with the introduction of the Green Rapid (route 6) while ensuring that residents continue to have access to high levels of public transport, including routes that service the same streets and stops, 7 days a week.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Repairs to footpaths at Wakefield Gardens in Ainslie.

Outcome: The path in Ainslie outside 71-99 Wakefield Gardens will be inspected and any repair work to remove the trip hazards will be completed.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Parking at Gowrie Sports Oval – visibility along Bugden Ave, particularly at Kellet St Corner.

Outcome: An officer from TCCS contacted the caller about her concerns that on Sundays when sports are occurring on the oval, cars park on the oval side of Bugden Avenue between Kellett Street and Castleton Crescent. This parking obscures visibility and forces drivers on Bugden Avenue to cross the solid centre line. The officer agreed that this issue would need to be investigated further and that there may be a need for Parking Operations to undertake some enforcement of the parking adjacent to the solid barrier centre lines.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Intersection off Tuggeranong Parkway onto Lady Denman Drive.

Outcome: Roads ACT are aware of the am peak queuing on the southbound ramp from Tuggeranong Parkway and have been considering a solution. A trial was conducted earlier this year using portable traffic lights to create gaps in the traffic on the northbound exit ramp which is the dominant flow and the reason for the southbound queuing.  Unfortunately the trial was not successful in resolving the problem. TCCS believes that once the Cotter Road duplication project is complete (end Jan 2018) a good alternative route will be available for the queuing traffic and the problem may resolve itself. In the interim, the TCCS officer will investigate the option of replacing the STOP sign at the end of the ramp with a GIVE WAY sing, if sight distance criteria are met.

SMS/TEXT

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Speed bumps on Cooyong St Braddon. Make sense on entry to roundabout, but why on exit?

Outcome: Pedestrians can cross the road at all approaches to the roundabout, hence slower vehicles exiting the roundabout reduces the risk of injury. The cushions are provided across the whole carriageway on all sides of the roundabout to prevent vehicles attempting to drive around the traffic calming devices, against the traffic flow.

Directorate: EPSDD

Issue: Please narrow road exit to Deakin shops parking area to 1 lane width, as has been done at Hughes Shops.

Outcome: The issue is that some vehicles did not always follow the one way system. TCCS will look into this location and action if appropriate.

Directorate: CMTEDD (Treasury)

Issue: Incorrect reading of water meter by ACTEWAGL.

Outcome: The customer was called and concerns were discussed which related to solar system discounts for electricity and gas supplied to two properties owned by the customer.

Directorate: EPSDD

Issue: Plan for intersection of Cotter Rd & Adelaide Ave? Concerned the bottleneck will shift to Yarralumla.

Outcome: A TCCS officer spoke with the caller about the possible future interchange at this location.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Green waste bins – when will they arrive in Hackett?

Outcome: TCCS contacted the caller to inform them that Inner-North Canberra are scheduled to have green bins in mid-2019.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: When will light rail stage 2 begin?

Outcome: No dates for the commencement of construction of Light Rail Stage 2 have been set.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Bus shelters – purpose/design criteria? Concerns they’re not great at keeping rain out.

Outcome: An officer from TCCS spoke with the caller and thanked her for the feedback about the design of the glass shelters and advised that their feedback has contributed to a change in the design of the shelters going forward. All new shelters now have wider wind panels and offers greater protection from the elements. In addition, the new shelters have wooden seats rather than aluminium to improve the level of comfort.

Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Why is the Route 5 bus being changed? Concerned it will affect already disadvantaged communities.
