Issue: The caller advised a number of children urgently require in-home palliative care services, including oxygen, breathing apparatus and a humidifier. The families do not have the financial capacity to acquire these independently.

Action required: Directorate to contact caller.

OUTCOME: The caller was provided information on palliative care in the ACT, particularly around the equipment available to all ACT residents, inclusive of paediatric patients, under the palliative care home-based service. The caller was advised this can be arranged through a specialist referral to Canberra Health Services’ Community, Aged Care and Rehabilitation service, who then supply it to the home.

The caller identified a family currently experiencing difficulties, and CHS informed the caller that, while they could not discuss the family’s circumstances, they would be in contact them.

Issue: Low household water pressure in Casey and Bonner

Action required: Directorate to contact caller.

OUTCOME: The caller was contacted a Technical Officer from Icon will inspect the pressure at the property and provide further information following the inspection.


Directorate: TCCS

Issue: Since the primary school has been fenced, there’s no public playground in Forest that can be accessed over the school holidays. The caller suggested options including remedying a playground in Red Hill, or installing a new facility in Collins Park.

Issue: Are there any plans to widen Gungahlin Drive to cope with the projected population growth of more than 30,000? The light rail will help but will it be sufficient?

Action required: Contact caller.

OUTCOME: The caller was contacted and advised TCCS will in future undertake a study on Gungahlin Drive (from Horse Park Drive to Gundaroo Drive). The outcome of this study would then determine if any improvement works are required on that stretch of road.

Issue: Unsolicited distribution of The Chronicle presumably creates work for TCCS. It is time distribution of these papers is limited to display stands at shopping centres.

OUTCOME: The caller was advised that this was an ongoing issue and TCCS are currently liaising with stakeholders regarding this matter.

Issue: Anyone walking down Fairbairn Ave to Majura Park faces a dangerous stretch of about 100m from the bridge under the Majura Parkway to the intersection with Majura Road where there is a pedestrian crossing. Could you look at either putting in a path [text cut off]

OUTCOME: The caller was advised that improvement on this section of pedestrian access is being considered as part of the Monaro Highway upgrades.

Issue: Derelict condition of the garden bed commemorating 1918-2018 Centenary.

Action required: Contact caller.

OUTCOME: The caller was contacted with advice regarding the background regarding the two floral displays on City Hill and how they can be booked. The current display was funded through Wall memorial for a 3-month period. This booking has now ended once plants start to die they are removed, and areas are left tidy. The caller was advised the area will be raked to remove old display ready for replanting in August for Daffodil day.


Directorate: City Renewal Authority

Issue: How much did it cost to put on the movies in Haig Park recently?

Action required: Contact caller.

OUTCOME: The caller was contacted to advise the Haig Park Pickture Festival was funded by the City Renewal Authority to the value of $100,000.


Directorate: CMTEDD (Economic Development)

Issue: Has the Government been talking to the lease holder of the Phillip swimming and ice skating rink about an upgrade to provide a twin sheet facility?

OUTCOME: The caller was contacted with advice confirming the Government’s position as outlined in a media release made by the Minister for Sport and Recreation, Ms Yvette Berry MLA. Directorate: Education

Issue: Are there plans to provide alignment between language education offerings between public primary and high schools? Yarralumla and Mawson primary schools offer bilingual education in Italian and Mandarin, respectively, but there are no public high-schools with offerings that would allow children to continue this education.

OUTCOME: The caller was advised there are clear language pathways for Mandarin and Italian to learn further in connecting high schools as one of the learning areas. However, there are not bilingual education options for high schools in the ACT, except for Telopea Park, who study the French Curriculum in a bilateral government agreement.
