Making it easy to party smart this summer

Released 28/12/2017

With New Year’s Eve just around the corner Access Canberra has made navigating the party season easier this year with its online party smart guide.

A/g Chief Operating Officer Craig Simmons said Canberrans could quickly and easily find key information to support a safe night out form their smart phones on the Access Canberra website.

“We have brought together quick links covering topics such as late night public transport services, where to find the CBR Night Crew on a night out in the city as well as tips to help you enjoy your night safely at: www.act.gov.au/partysmart,” he said.

“We want to support Canberrans make the most of their down time this summer to celebrate the year that was, while also knowing where they can access tips and information to help keep them safe.”

Access Canberra has also been working closely with the licenced venues throughout the year to support the safe and responsible service of alcohol and ensuring fire and emergency exits are not blocked or locked.

“We’ll continue to work closely with venues and ACT Policing throughout the summer and festive period to support safety in and around venues,” he said.

For those Canberrans looking to party in the ‘burbs rather than venues, Mr Simmons reminded Canberrans to be mindful of noise and respectful to neighbouring residents.

“During the festive season we often see an increase in calls when it comes to noise concerns,” he said. “This often relates to parties or events in houses, but can also be around air conditioning units and pool pumps running overtime in the warmer weather, or people making good use of new motorised toys (such as small toy motorbikes) in backyards.

“While some noise can be expected, unreasonable and sustained noise which impacts on quality of life is not ok. Most often a simple conversation with a neighbour can resolve the issue.  Many times a neighbour may not be aware of the impact noise on their property is having and are happy to work to support a resolution.”
