Serious safety issue at Braddon worksite

WorkSafe ACT is investigating a serious safety issue at a high rise residential construction site in Braddon.

A WorkSafe Inspector attended the site at approximately 5pm yesterday following a report of a collapse of prefabricated concrete panels in a lift shaft.

One of the panels fell approximately 7 metres into the shaft well.  No workers were injured or in the shaft at the time of the collapse.

The cause of the collapse it being investigated by WorkSafe ACT and a non-disturbance notice is in place at the immediate incident site. An independent engineer has been engaged by WorkSafe ACT as part of this investigation.

A further update will be provided as the investigation progresses.

WorkSafe ACT will provide safety advice to industry both in the ACT and nationally, noting the significance of the incident.

No further comments will be made on this incident at this time, noting the investigation underway.
