Hop online for egg-ceptionally easy government services this Easter

Whether you’re staying in Canberra or going away for the upcoming break, Canberrans can do more than 360 services and transactions online over the Easter and ANZAC Day public holidays.

As well as providing information on changes to ACT Government Services over the break, the Access Canberra website (www.act.gov.au/accessCBR) is the place to go 24/7 to renew your car registration, driver licence or pay a bill. It’s fast and egg-ceptionally easy.

When it comes to changes to government services over the break a full list is available here.

Key service changes include:

  • the Access Canberra Contact Centre is closed on 19 April only. Service Centres will be closed between 19-22 April and then on 25 April
  • light rail commences on 20 April with free travel on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 April
  • household waste, recycling and green bin collections which were to be collected on Friday 19 April 2019 will be collected the next day, Saturday 20 April. Waste collections that fall on ANZAC Day 25 April 2019 will go ahead as planned.

Emergency after hour services for dog attacks or injured dogs are available by contacting Access Canberra on 13 22 81. Dog attacks that are in progress and involve a life-threatening situation should be reported to ACT Policing on Triple Zero.

Hospitals and Walk-in Centres

Canberra Hospital

The Canberra Hospital Emergency Department, the Registrar Review Clinic and the Canberra Region Cancer Centre will operate as normal.

Visiting hours at Canberra Hospital are from 6am to 9pm daily.

University of Canberra Hospital

Business as usual for Inpatient Units.

No Allied Health Services.

Reception will operate as per normal from 7am to 7pm.

The University of Canberra Hospital does not have an Emergency Department. For further information contact the Canberra Hospital Switchboard (02) 5124 0000.

No outpatient services during this period.

Centenary Hospital for Women and Children

The Centenary Hospital for Women and Children will operate as normal with some non-essential services unavailable on the public holidays.

Visiting hours are 6am to 9pm daily.

Walk-in Centres

Business as usual – open 7.30am to 10pm.

Libraries ACT

All Libraries ACT branches, including the Heritage Library, will be closed from Friday 19 April to Monday 22 April 2019 inclusive.

Return chutes will also be closed on these dates. No items will be due on these public holidays.

Libraries ACT branches will also be closed on Thursday 25 April 2019 (ANZAC DAY), although return chutes will remain open.

Library members can still make use of online services such as downloading e-books, e-audio books and digital magazines. You can also search, request and renew items by visiting the Libraries ACT website.

Parks and Nature Reserves

There is no change to opening hours at Namadgi National Park and the Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve over the Easter break. For more information visit the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate - Environment website.

Waste Management

The Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre in Symonston and the Mitchell Resource Management Centre on Flemington Road in Mitchell will be closed to the public on Friday 19 April 2019.

Regional Drop Off Centres will remain open over Easter. Residents are encouraged to consider other users and ensure they read the signs outlining what can be recycled and where to leave it. Recycling Drop Off Centres are located at the following sites:

  • Jolly Street, Belconnen
  • O’Brien Place, Gungahlin
  • Baillieu Circuit, Mitchell
  • Botany Street, Phillip
  • Scollay Street, Tuggeranong

Household waste, recycling and green bin collections will not be collected on Friday 19 April 2019.

These services have been rescheduled for the next day, Saturday 20 April 2019.

Household waste collections that fall on ANZAC Day, 25 April 2019 will go ahead as planned.
