If you see a fault or outage give us a call and avoid unnecessary contact

Released 13/04/2018

With daylight savings recently ending, and the sun now setting earlier in the evening, you might have noticed a fault or outage in a streetlight or other electrical asset that you didn’t notice before.

Transport Canberra and City Services would like to take this opportunity to remind the public that it is important to report a fault or outage to Access Canberra on 13 22 81 or through Fix My Street at www.act.gov.au/fixmystreet as soon as you become aware of it and avoid unnecessary contact.

Like the electrical devices in your home such as the toaster or kettle, public electric assets can become a hazard when faulty, and any information you can provide about a fault or outage can help us fix the problem sooner.

The community should avoid coming into contact with accessible Territory owned electrical assets, including streetlights and irrigation control boxes or Evoenergy owned electrical assets such as power poles, substations and mini pillars as a precaution.

Transport Canberra and City Services is committed to providing safe and reliable public assets and the community’s help in identifying faults will allow us to take appropriate action sooner.

Canberrans will also see more activity around streetlights in coming weeks. Electrix who has been contracted to manage the streetlight network from 1 May 2018 will be engaged ahead of this timeframe to finish undertaking the electrical safety inspection program to check the condition of streetlight columns.

The inspection program will physically test the condition of poles. Nearly 40% of all streetlight poles have already been inspected. Electrical works will be undertaken if required.
