Road users are advised that work to improve the road condition of Brisbane Avenue between National Circuit and Wentworth Avenue will begin next week.
This work is part of the Australian Government’s Roads to Recovery Program which supports the maintenance of the nation’s local road infrastructure, and facilitates greater access for Australians and improved safety, economic and social outcomes.
The work will include:
- replacement of existing road pavement
- replacement of kerbing and driveways
- modification of the westbound ‘no parking’ area between Young Street and Macquarie Street to allow two hour parking.
Location and timing of works
Work to erect the site compound and project signage is underway. Road works are expected to commence the week of 3 December 2018. To reduce construction times, work will be carried out on both carriageways of Brisbane Avenue simultaneously and in stages. The stages are:
- National Circuit to Wentworth Avenue – left lane
- National Circuit to Wentworth Avenue – right lane
- intersection of Brisbane Avenue and National Circuit
- weekend closures of Brisbane Avenue (one carriageway at a time) for installation of the top asphalt layer and line marking.
To minimise traffic impacts, there will be some flexibility in work hours including carrying out work on weekends where possible. However no work will be permitted between the hours of 10 pm and 7 am.
This work is expected to be completed in second quarter 2019.
Effects on traffic
- Delays are expected.
- Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people to the temporary road closures.
- Drivers are asked to be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements and adhere to the work zone speed limit of 40 km/h on Brisbane Avenue.
Every effort will be made to minimise the disruption to the local community and maintain access for both vehicles and pedestrians during construction. The ACT Government apologises for the inconvenience and thanks everyone for their patience whilst this important work takes place.
