Rolling temporary road closures for Queen's Baton Relay event

In the lead up to the Commonwealth Games, Canberra is hosting the first leg of the Queen’s Baton Relay as it travels across Australia. Tomorrow, Thursday 25 January 2018, a series of temporary road closures are expected from the Australian Institute of Sport in Bruce to the Australian War Memorial in Campbell.

The relay will be continuously moving and sections of road will be reopened once the relay has passed through.

Location and timing of road closures

Road closures for the Queen’s Baton Relay are expected to commence from 9.30 am tomorrow until 4 pm at the following locations:

  • 9.30 am until 10.15 am - Leverrier Street and Masterman Street, Bruce
  • 9.30 am until 11.30 am - Forest Drive at the National Arboretum, Molonglo Valley
  • 11.30 am until 2.15 pm - Pescott Lane, Weston Park
  • 11.30 am until 2.15 pm - Weston Park Road, Brown Street and Alexandrina Drive, Yarralumla
  • 1 pm until 3.30 pm - Alexandrina Drive and Flynn Drive, Yarralumla
  • 1 pm until 3.30 pm - King Edward Terrace, Parkes Place East and Queen Elizabeth Terrace, Parkes
  • 2.30 pm until 3.30 pm - Rond Terrace car park, Parkes
  • 3 pm until 4 pm - Parkes Way, Parkes (both directions from Coranderrk Street roundabout to Kings Avenue/Parkes Way.
  • 3 pm until 4 pm - Anzac Parade, Campbell/Reid

Effects on traffic

  • The Queen’s Baton Relay will travel as a moving convoy with a rolling effect on local roads.
  • Some traffic diversions onto alternate routes will be made at some locations.
  • Motorists are asked to please follow signage and directions from traffic controllers on site.
  • Local traffic, where possible, will be accepted into affected areas.

The Queen’s Baton Relay is not expected to impact the ACT road network on Friday 26 January 2018.
