Upcoming intersection closures for Light Rail works

Released 06/07/2018

Diversions will be in place around Light Rail works at Wakefield/Macarthur Avenues and Alinga Street this weekend as City to Gungahlin Light Rail works continue to progress. Transport Canberra and City Services (TCCS) and Canberra Metro are working hard to complete construction and to ensure these closures cause as little disruption as possible.

  • From 8.00pm tonight (Friday 6 July) until 4.00am Monday 9 July, the intersection at Wakefield and Macarthur Avenues will be closed to traffic turning right on both streets and to all through traffic along Wakefield and Macarthur Avenues.
  • For two consecutive weekends from 10.00pm tonight (Friday 6 July) until 6.00am Monday 9 July, and from 10.00pm Friday 13 July until 6.00am Monday 16 July, motorists will have no access to Alinga Street eastbound and no through access along Alinga. No right turns in either direction will be permitted during this time.

Detours, traffic control and pedestrian management will be in place, and signage and personnel will be highly visible throughout the works. Motorists are encouraged to follow the detours and allow additional travel time over the affected weekends.

Transport Canberra buses will experience diversions in the City Bus Station from:

  • 8.00pm tonight (Friday 6 July) to 6.00am Monday 16 July.
  • 8.00pm Friday 13 July to 6.00am Monday 16 July.

Platforms 4, 5, 6 and 7 will be closed and services will be directed to alternative platforms during these times. Bus stops 4530 (Marcus Clarke Street), 4531 and 3042 (Alinga Street) will also be closed.

TCCS thanks the public for their continued understanding and patience during these interruptions.
