Upcoming temporary road closures in Gungahlin Town Centre

There will be a number of temporary road closures in Gungahlin Town Centre in the coming weeks to complete works associated with the signalisation of the Kate Crace Street and The Valley Avenue intersection, light rail and the extension of Ernest Cavanagh Street.

Signalisation of Kate Crace Street and The Valley Avenue intersection

The new signalised intersection of Kate Crace Street and The Valley Avenue opened to traffic in December 2018. These works will deliver the final line marking.

Location and timing of temporary road closures

The following temporary road closures will be in place from Monday 14 to Thursday 17 January 2019 daily from 9.30 am to 4 pm:

  • Kate Crace Street will be closed in both directions from Camilleri Way to Flemington Road
  • The Valley Avenue will be closed in both directions from Hinder Street to Manning Clark Crescent
  • Efkarpidis Street will be closed in both directions from Kate Crace Street to approximately 45 metres west towards Hinder Street.

There will be no access for road users or pedestrians. In the event of unexpected delays including inclement weather, these daily closures may be required on subsequent days. Roadside signage will be in place to alert road users.

Detours

During the closures, road users travelling along Anthony Rolfe Avenue and The Valley Avenue will be detoured via Hinder Street and Manning Clark Crescent.

Light Rail

There will be closures at the intersection of Kate Crace Street and Flemington Road as Canberra Metro applies the final asphalt surface at this intersection.

Location and timing of temporary road closures

The following temporary road closures will be in place from 6 pm on Friday 18 January to 6 am on Monday 21 January 2019:

  • Flemington Road will be closed in both directions from Manning Clark Crescent (North) to Kate Crace Street
  • Kate Crace Street will be closed northbound from Efkarpidis Street to Ernest Cavanagh Street
  • Kate Crace Street will be closed southbound from Anthony Rolfe Avenue to Efkarpidis Street
  • Ernest Cavanagh Street will be closed in both directions from Kate Crace Street to Manning Clark Crescent (North).

The intersection will be closed in stages to traffic over this period. Detours will be in place and promoted on Canberra Metro’s website. Traffic management will be operational and highly visible throughout the works, including signage and personnel.

Extension of Ernest Cavanagh Street

The extension of Ernest Cavanagh Street between Hinder Street and Manning Clark Crescent opened to traffic in December 2018. These final works will complete work on Kate Crace Street in the section that was temporarily used as an access point for the adjacent development during construction.

Location and timing of temporary road closure

A southbound closure will be in place on Kate Crace Street between Anthony Rolfe Avenue and Ernest Cavanagh Street from Monday 21 January to Friday 25 January 2019 daily between the hours of 7 am and
5 pm
. These works are expected to take approximately three days in this time period. There will be no access for road users or pedestrians.

Detours

During the closures, road users travelling along Anthony Rolfe Avenue and The Valley Avenue will be detoured via Hinder Street and Manning Clark Crescent. Pedestrians will be detoured on the western side of Kate Crace Street.

Effects on traffic

  • Delays are expected.
  • Barriers as well as warning and diversion signs will be erected to alert people to the closure.
  • Drivers are asked to be mindful of the changed traffic arrangements and adhere to the work zone speed limits.
