$300m development begins in City East

Released 01/12/2017

Works have now commenced on the $300 million state of the art new Constitution Avenue precinct in City East – a development that will see the current car park site adjacent to the Legislative Assembly transformed into Canberra’s newest city precinct.

The mixed use development, delivered by local company Capital Property Group, will provide a major economic boost for the Territory and create hundreds of jobs during the construction phase.

There are a number of Government and private projects currently underway in the CBD, transforming the area and attracting more people and economic activity. This is just the latest in a string of projects that will transform the CBD – from new housing developments in East Row, the renewal of the ABC Flats and the light rail project.

The precinct will house the new ACT Government office building, commercial office space, a boutique hotel, a gym and child care centre, along with street level cafes and eateries and landscaped plazas. It will also include basement level public parking with more spaces than are currently on offer in the old car park upon completion in mid-2020.
