ACT Government welcomes Defence Housing Australia’s move to Gungahlin

Released 16/05/2018

The announcement of Defence Housing Australia moving to Gungahlin is a boost for the region and another vote of confidence in the ACT Government’s light rail network.

Local businesses will benefit from the moving of 290 staff from Barton to Gungahlin, with staff able to access the new office via Canberra’s light rail network.

Gungahlin is a key growth centre for Canberra and the ACT Government has invested significantly in the Gungahlin region over many years. The Government also added more than 650 jobs to the area through the opening of the Winyu House office block in 2015.

Since Winyu House opened, there has been significant local retail and commercial growth in the Gungahlin Town Centre, which will be further enhanced with the opening of stage one of Canberra’s light rail network later this year.

The ACT Government congratulates Senator Zed Seselja’s work on securing this important employment boost for Gungahlin.

The Federal Coalition Government supported stage one of Canberra’s light rail network and I look forward to the Government’s continued support for stage two to connect Barton and the Parliamentary Triangle to Gungahlin.

We look forward to working with Defence Housing Australia over the coming months.
