Historic Summer of Cricket for CBR

Released 03/10/2018

Canberrans are in for a historic summer of cricket, with the upgraded Manuka Oval ready to host its maiden Test Match when Australia take on Sri Lanka from 1 to 5 February and the return of the Sydney Thunder for not one, but two Big Bash matches.

The ACT Government has invested in Manuka Oval in recent years to attract more international standard cricket content. This investment has paid off and we are now welcoming the biggest and best summer of cricket in Canberra’s history.

Sydney Thunder will take on the Melbourne Stars at Manuka Oval on 21 December in the KFC Big Bash League season opener at 7.15pm preceded by Sydney Thunder and the Hobart Hurricanes playing in the Rebel Women’s Big Bash League (1.50pm). A second Sydney Thunder match against the Hobart Hurricanes takes place on 9 February 2019.

The announcement comes ahead of this Friday’s T20 women’s cricket season opener between Australia and New Zealand at Manuka Oval, part of the Commonwealth Bank Women’s Series.

The Big Bash League games will not only entertain local cricket fans but will drive visitors from interstate to inject money into the ACT economy through our hospitality, retail and accommodation industry.

Tickets for Sydney Thunder BBL games go on sale tomorrow through Ticketek.
