Released 21/08/2019

In the four years since its inception, the Canberra Writers Festival has gone from strength-to-strength and is now a fixture on Canberra’s cultural calendar.

This year’s theme, ‘Power Politics Passion’, has delivered a jam packed line up of renowned writers and is sure to add to the festival’s growing reputation as a world class literary event.

The ACT Government is a proud partner of the Canberra Writers Festival and we are committed to continuing this partnership into the future.

The over the next five days, 160 brilliant writers, journalists, artists, commentators and thinkers will participate on almost 80 sessions; speaking on topics including cooking, culture, conflict, Australian society, politics, economics, science, the criminal justice system, the environment, climate change, foreign affairs, and, of course, literature.

Events like the Canberra Writers Festival are a great driver of visitation to the ACT, they help to support and grow our tourism industry, a key reason why we have seen was the highest growth in tourism employment nationally.

Thank you to festival staff whose hard work and dedication will ensure this wonderful event – designed especially for our nation’s capital – is again a huge success.
