ACT Government welcomes Dunns Creek Road

Released 14/03/2019

The ACT Government has welcomed funding from Federal and NSW Labor for Dunns Creek Road, which will provide a direct link from the Monaro Highway into Googong Township on Old Cooma Road.

Federal and NSW Labor have jointly committed $135 million for Dunns Creek Road. The Nationals have only committed $27 million.

ACT Minister for Roads, Chris Steel joined Mike Kelly, Federal Member for Eden-Monaro, NSW Labor’s Candidate for Monaro Bryce Wilson, Senator David Smith and Member for Brindabella, Joy Burch to make the announcement.

“Canberra and the surrounding regions are growing every day and the ACT Government is committed to building a better road network to keep Canberra connected,” said Minister Steel.

“I know that Monaro residents have been asking whether the ACT Government supports Dunns Creek road. I can assure them that we welcome Federal and NSW Labor’s commitment to fully fund this important road for our region.

“This is significant investment in road infrastructure that will benefit the Canberra region economy and help to reduce congestion bottlenecks.”

The new Dunns Creek Road will also complement the significant upgrades the ACT Government is planning on the Monaro Highway, in partnership with the Commonwealth Government.

“The ACT Government will make sure that Dunns Creek road is well linked to the Monaro highway to better connect the region,” Minister Steel said.

“Canberrans will benefit from this new road with a faster run to the coast bypassing Jerrabomberra and Queanbeyan, and Dunns Creek Road will also help reduce the bottleneck on the Monaro at Lanyon Drive.”
