Released 15/01/2019

Celebrated performers Christine Anu and Isaiah Firebrace will headline the 2019 National Multicultural Festival, while celebrity chef Mark Olive will entertain crowds with his lively cooking demonstrations.

“The National Multicultural Festival is very excited to have such high profile Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians to headline one of Canberra’s premier events,” Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Chris Steel said today.

“Christine Anu is an icon of the Australian music and performing arts scene, as well as a well-loved ABC Radio presenter.

“Isaiah Firebrace is a young man who has already had a major impact on Australian music at just 19 years of age. Isaiah did Australia proud at the 2017 Eurovision Song Contest finishing ninth with the song ‘It don’t come easy’.

“Mark Olive is Australia’s best known Aboriginal chef who features on television and has performed live cooking promotions around Australia and overseas.”

The three will highlight performances across the Festival weekend, which will be held between Friday 15 and Sunday 17 February 2019 in Civic.

It is one of the nation’s largest and most important celebrations of cultural diversity and attracts hundreds of thousands to Canberra’s central business district for music, dance, food and refreshment.
