ACT Ambulance Service graduates recognised

Released 12/12/2013

Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Simon Corbell, today congratulated ACT Ambulance Service members graduating at various clinical levels including Non-Emergency Patient Transport, Ambulance Paramedic, and Intensive Care Paramedic.

"These 23 students have studied incredibly hard in their respective courses, which range from one to four years commitment, covering theoretical and on-the-job practical studies to receive their qualifications," Mr Corbell said.

"Today's graduation is evidence of the ongoing commitment of the ACT Government to supporting the ambulance service by strengthening its ranks in response to increased demand.

"It pays appropriate tribute to the ongoing commitment of front line members and I congratulate each recipient."

Awards presented to graduates included Certificate III (Non Emergency Client Transport), Diploma of Paramedical Science (Ambulance Paramedics), and Advanced Diploma of Paramedical Science (Intensive Care Paramedics).

During today's ceremony, simulated drills displayed some of the advanced skills learnt during the training, including advanced airway management, intravenous access and resuscitation techniques.

"The safety of our community is paramount and graduates are now fully equipped for the day-to-day challenges of working for the ACT Ambulance Service," Mr Corbell said.

As part of today's presentation, two members from the ACT Ambulance Service in the ACT Emergency Services Agency Communications Centre were recognised for service to the community and their achievement in improving work practices.

A NSW Police Officer from Queanbeyan Station also received an ACTAS Chief Officer's Commendation for his heroic actions at a motor vehicle accident in 2012.
