Calvary car park completed early for the holiday season

Released 17/12/2015

Calvary Hospital’s new $16.87m five-story car park was today opened for operation two months ahead of schedule and in time for the holiday season by Minister for Health Simon Corbell.

“To have this essential piece of infrastructure up and running two months ahead of schedule in time for the holiday season is a fantastic result and highlights the hard work ACT Health and ADCO Constructions have put in to complete this project,” Mr Corbell said.

The new car park, which was delivered within budget, is located across the road from the hospital’s main reception and will provide 704 car parking spaces, including 21accessible parking spaces – a total increase of 515 parking spaces for the hospital campus.

“Patients, visitors and staff at Calvary Hospital now have a new, modern and convenient parking location close to the services they need, which will greatly improve access to one of Canberra’s most important health facilities,” Mr Corbell said.

The Calvary Hospital car park has been delivered as part of the ACT Government’s Health Infrastructure Program, the largest infrastructure investment in the history of the ACT. To date, a total of $909 million has been invested in new infrastructure through the program.

The Health Infrastructure Program aims to change how and where people are cared for by delivering better access to expanded health services, as well as providing Canberrans the right services at the right times.

“The new Calvary Hospital car park is just one of the building blocks we need to grow and expand a health care system that can better support the needs of Canberra’s growing community,” Mr Corbell said.

Other projects being delivered through the Health Infrastructure Program include the new University of Canberra Public Hospital, the Secure Mental Health Unit and the Ngunnawal Bush Healing Farm, which will all see major construction milestones met throughout 2016.
