Advisory board to maximise $12 million in local opportunities

Released 28/04/2016

A select group of senior commercial leaders from across the ACT and region who will give advice on how to use the ACT’s $12 million Renewable Energy Innovation Fund met for the first time last night, Minister for the Environment and Climate Change Simon Corbell announced today.

“The new business advisory board draws from a broad range of high-level experience in the energy industry. I am confident that the board members will generate valuable advice on opportunities that will directly translate into economic, training and technology benefits stemming from the territory’s investment in renewable energy,” Mr Corbell said.

The $12m Renewable Energy Innovation Fund was established in 2015 to support Canberra-based renewable energy business and attract new and innovative renewable energy ventures to the city. The members of the Business Advisory Board are:

  • Sylvia Tulloch (Chair) - Ms Tulloch was the founding Managing Director of Dyesol Limited, commercialising third generation solar technology; former President of the Sustainable Energy Industries Association of Australia; and is a member of the Independent Assessment Panel for the ACT's Innovation Connect (ICon) grants program.
  • Bruce Godfrey - As Chief Executive Officer, Australian Scientific Instruments, and former Managing Director of Energy Research and Development Corporation, Dr Godfrey has 20+ years experience as a commercial executive bringing new energy technologies to market.
  • Penny Sackett - Professor Sackett was former Chief Scientist of Australia (2008-2011), and is currently Adjunct Professor with the Climate Change Institute, ANU.
  • Anne-Marie Perrett - Ms Perrett is Chair of Capital Angels, the Territory's 'angel' investor network investing in early-stage ventures across the ACT, and specialises in R&D funding and start-ups.
  • Paul Adams - Mr Adams has over 30 years experience in the energy industry.  In 2011, he was appointed to the ActewAGL Board, and was appointed Deputy Chair in 2014.
  • Mark Schneider - As founder and Principal of Megawatt Capital, and previously with Investec and Societe Generale, Mr Schneider has over two decades experience as an experienced renewable energy banker.
  • Carlo Botto - Mr Botto has over 30 years of senior level energy industry experience across Australia and North America.

"One of the key benefits the Renewable Energy Innovation Fund will bring to Canberra will be bringing real training and job opportunities to the city so Canberrans get the most out of the territory’s leadership on renewable energy," Mr Corbell said.

"The ACT's pioneering investment in renewable energy has given us a unique opportunity to drive the development of the territory as an export-oriented hub for renewable energy innovation and investment.

"Our program of renewable energy and energy storage auctions is attracting companies to the territory and expanding the commercial horizon for businesses already here.

"This is happening in an environment where we are delivering renewable energy to Canberra households at record low prices.”
