What’s on this weekend at the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival

Released 22/04/2022

Another weekend of heritage filled fun is coming up for you and your family to explore with some big events on the calendar.

This weekend promises another diverse mix of Ngunnawal cultural events, popular returning events including the Heritage Polaris and the Picnic at Rock Valley, as well as an ANZAC Eve Peace Vigil, a popular Canberra tradition to recognise the Anzac story.

Here are just some of the great events on this weekend at the Canberra and Region Heritage Festival:

Saturday 23 April

  • Heritage Polaris: Make tracks in the capital as teams of 2 riders take to the cycle paths, forests and roads seeking out a choice of heritage themed checkpoints in a seven-hour event that is open to serious riders, recreational riders, families and teams of all ages.
  • Picnic at Rock Valley: Bring your picnic to the beautiful grounds of the heritage listed Rock Valley Homestead and gardens. Play some traditional games, enjoy live music and poetry, and chat with pioneer family descendants about how life was in the early days of Tidbinbilla's pastoral history.

Sunday 24 April

  • Curious about Croquet: Give a mallet a swing at the ‘Come and Try’ day at the heritage-listed Canberra Croquet Club in Yarralumla. It is one of the oldest sporting clubs in Canberra, initially opened as a women’s only club in 1928 and now open to everyone.
  • ANZAC Eve Peace Vigil: A beautiful Canberra tradition. As the sun sets the peace lanterns are lit. We are welcomed by the traditional owners. Through community singing, storytelling and simple ceremony we reimagine the Anzac story and all the narratives of war towards a peaceful, kinder future.
