ACT Ambulance Service celebrates long service

Released 26/03/2019

One hundred and sixteen ACT Ambulance Service (ACTAS) staff are being recognised for their commitment and service to the Canberra community.

The inaugural ACTAS long service awards provide formal acknowledgment and thanks for staff who have helped to keep Canberra safe. Awards will be presented for 10, 20, 30 and 40 years of service.

This is the first time long service is being recognised in the ACT Ambulance Service.

The awards have been instituted as a result of staff feedback, held as part of ACTAS’s Blueprint for Change project, and will begin a tradition where continued service is recognised and honoured.

I congratulate recipients for their achievements and thank them for their commitment to the ACT Ambulance Service and our wider community. ACTAS staff do a great job, often in demanding and stressful situations, and it is important that their work is honoured.

I also acknowledge and thank the families and friends whose support enables ACTAS staff to continue their important work and often goes under the radar.

The 116 staff receiving a long service award include Paramedics, Non-emergency Patient Transfer staff, Communication Centre officers, administrative, planning and support staff.

Two medals will be awarded posthumously to the families of staff who have passed away. Eleven retired staff who reached a long service milestones within the last five years will also be recognised.

In the last financial year our ambulance workforce has serviced more than 53,000 Triple Zero (000) calls.

I handed out the first awards at a ceremony on Friday last week and will be handing out the second and final awards at a ceremony this evening. Media are welcome to attend the proceedings.
