Growing Canberra's cyber security sector

Released 20/09/2019

The ACT Government is boosting Canberra's cyber security capability and competitiveness through the Canberra Cyber Security Innovation Node.

Cyber security is one of the world's fastest growing industries and we are committed to creating local jobs and economic opportunities in the ACT.

Many of Australia’s top cyber security players are situated in Canberra, including businesses, national security agencies, and tertiary education and research institutions. We are working with industry, schools and researchers to build a vibrant and competitive sector.

The Canberra Node was established in partnership with the ACT Government in July 2017 as part of the AustCyber National Network.

It has already made strides developing local, national and international industry networks and is providing training for local small and medium businesses and entrepreneurs.

The ACT Government is investing $600,000 over three years through our Priority Investment Program working alongside AustCyber, an independent, not-for-profit organisation funded by the Australian Government.

The Priority Investment Program has so far supported projects in the space, cyber security, renewable energy and agri-technology sectors.

Quotes attributable to Linda Cavanagh, Manager of the Canberra Cyber Security Innovation Node

"Canberra is uniquely placed, as the home of public service decision makers, national security agencies, prime contractors and small to medium enterprises that deliver cyber security capabilities to the public and private sectors.

Continuing the AustCyber Canberra Node partnership with the ACT Government secures the Node's ability to support our cyber security sector in creating a globally competitive industry and assist in delivering an innovative, digital driven economy to support job growth in our region."
