Have a say on your local nature reserve

Released 23/09/2019

We're inviting Canberrans to have their say on the management of Canberra's fantastic nature reserves.

The ACT Government has released its latest draft Canberra Nature Park management plan for consultation, which outlines our values and goals for reserves as more people visit them each year.

We want to hear park users' views to help develop a plan that meets community expectations as well as conservation needs. Each reserve also has its own 'plan on a page' so you can have you can have a say on your favourite local park.

Canberrans love the Canberra Nature Park and its 37 reserves, with over 65 per cent of the population visiting a park last year.

Our reserves contribute to health and wellbeing in the ACT by providing a destination for morning runs, dog walking and generally connecting with nature. The draft plan outlines the kinds of activities that will be allowed in each reserve.

The reserves also play a vital role conserving the natural environment through protecting endangered woodlands, grasslands and animals and providing important wildlife corridors through the ACT and into NSW.

The Canberra Nature Park belongs to Canberrans and we want the final plan to deliver what the community wants while continuing to conserve native our species.

A management plan has been in place since 1999 and the updated plan will outline how our reserves are managed for the coming decade.
