New clinic helping our native wildlife

Released 17/02/2019

A new facility purpose-built to rehabilitate Canberra’s native wildlife has today opened its doors in the Jerrabomberra Wetlands precinct.

The new clinic and attached office will assist ACT Wildlife to care for and heal sick and injured wildlife before reintroducing them into the wild.

ACT Wildlife volunteers have rehabilitated more than 1592 animals in 2018, helping an amazing array of local wildlife from wombats, native birds, possums, wallabies and even snakes and lizards.

The ACT Government has provided $83,642 to upgrade and fitout the new office building and clinic in Jerrabomberra.

I would like to thank ACT Wildlife and all if its volunteers for their service to the Canberra community since 2013. This latest investment will help ensure they can continue their important work.

We’ve committed an additional $10,000 per annum from the ACT Parks and Conservation Service to support ACT Wildlife to run the clinic into the future.

I encourage anyone with a passion for wildlife to consider joining the community of 75 passionate ACT Wildlife volunteers. To find out more visit their website: www.actwildlife.net.

If you find an injured or sick native animal please handle it with care, wrap it in a warm towel or blanket and contact ACT Wildlife on: 0432 300 033.

For injured kangaroos, please call Access Canberra on: 13 22 81.
