Strengthening partnerships across the ditch

Released 18/11/2019

Canberra Week in Wellington begins this week honouring Canberra’s Sister City Agreement with New Zealand’s capital.

I am traveling to Wellington to build on our important partnership, which supports cultural exchange and business collaborations.

I’m looking forward to meeting with the recently elected Mayor of Wellington City Council Mr Andy Foster and other members of the City Council to further our Sister City Agreement.

We have several partnerships between Wellington and Canberra institutions including Wellington Zoo and the National Zoo and Aquarium, Wellington Botanic Gardens and the National Arboretum Canberra, and Zealandia and Mulligans Flat Woodlands Sanctuary.

The Wellington Chamber of Commerce and Canberra Business Chamber also have a close partnership that encourages jobs and economic growth in both cities.

The visit includes a meeting at the Wellington offices of Canberra-based cyber security business Cogito Group to discuss how the ACT Government can build on support for Canberra businesses to expand to New Zealand.

Meetings will also be held with Wellington officials including counterparts in my environment, policing, advanced technology and space industries portfolios.
