The ACT will be even more prepared for bushfires following new funding for electronic fire danger rating signs and a fire detecting camera trial.
These investments build on the ACT Government’s ongoing support for the ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) to protect our community and environment.
The ACT is experiencing an unprecedented bushfire season and new funding will help ensure we are even more prepared next season.
At the request of the ESA, we are funding a six-month trial of fire and smoke detection cameras in key elevated locations across Canberra to establish how they could assist with early fire detection.
The extra investment will also enable the installation of seven new Electronic Fire Danger Rating Signs, completing our replacement of manual signs.
We love our bush capital, however having easy access to nature means the threat of bushfires is a fact of life here in the ACT.
The ACT Government is investing $976,000 in the 2019-20 Budget Review, which adds to our $2.65 million for Strengthening bushfire preparedness and ACT Rural Fire Service Partnerships in the 2019-20 Budget.
This includes continuing the ACT’s contribution to the National Emergency Alert system.
Our investments in the ESA have enabled their outstanding efforts so far this bushfire season in protecting Canberra.
