Released 31/10/2018

Minister for the Arts and Cultural Events, Gordon Ramsay today announced the first recipients of the ACT Government’s new Arts Activities $5-50k funding.

“The annual pool of a minimum of $750,000 in project funding – now called Arts Activity Funding – is delivered in two major rounds each year of grants up to $50,000 as well as a rolling program of grants up to $5000,”Minister Ramsay said.

“This latest round has resulted in 16 projects being funded and I congratulate the recipients in what was a highly competitive process that demonstrates the strength and diversity of our arts community.

“These local artists and organisations will deliver an exciting array of activities across all artforms and I wish them every success.

“I am very pleased with the positive feedback we’ve received after extensive consultation with the arts community about shifting Arts Activities Funding to two major rounds per year with rolling smaller grants, as a key first element of the ACT Arts Funding plan.”

Activities receiving support include:

  • recording, mixing and mastering an EP of new hip hop music by artist KG
  • a visual arts project pairing seven community artists living with disability from Hands On Studio with seven working Canberra artists
  • the second iteration of the BOLD festival entitled BOLD II, a dance festival produced by Liz Lea, which celebrates the legacy and impact of professional and community dance across all ages and cultures

The successful applicants will share in funding totalling $303,208, with a further $300,000 available in the next $5-50k funding round, which opens 1 December 2018 and closes 28 February 2019.

Unsuccessful applicants in this round are welcome to apply again for the next round. The total available budget for 2018-19 for Arts Activities Funding is $775,000.

The Up to $5k funding is available all year round. To date the 17 applicants have received total funding of $62,281, of the $175,000 funding available.
