Music commemorations to mark Remembrance Day in Canberra

Released 21/09/2018

A special series of music commemorations to mark Remembrance Day in Canberra was launched today.

At 11am on Sunday 11 November, 11 different musical commemorations will be held across the city in honour of the veterans who have served our country. It is part of the national ‘Stop the Nation’ commemorations marking the centenary of the Armistice, ending World War One.

Minister for the Arts and Cultural Events and Minister for Veterans, Gordon Ramsay today met with some of the members of participating band members set to take part in the event.

“Remembrance Day is a very important day on our events calendar, providing an opportunity to honour our veterans and their families,” Minister Ramsay said.

“I strongly encourage members of the Canberra community who are unable to attend the National Ceremony at the Australian War Memorial to attend one of these fantastic concerts and take a moment to think of our veterans and the important sacrifice they have made for our country.”

The commemorations will be held from 11:00am to 11:45am at Yerrabi Ponds, Dickson Town Centre, Belconnen Markets, Haig Park, City Walk, the National Arboretum Canberra, Woden Square, Lanyon Marketplace, Tuggeranong Town Park, Old Bus Depot Markets and Gungahlin Town Centre.
