Released 25/04/2019

Today we stop to acknowledge the service of former and current Australian servicemen and women who have made the decision to defend our nation and its values through the armed forces.

Minister for Veterans Gordon Ramsay said that today’s ANZAC Day service was about paying tribute to all of those who have served our nation.

“ANZAC Day is about the selflessness of men and women before us as well as those who currently serve our nation, who have helped make Australia a peaceful place to live, and a country where the rule of law underpins our freedom,” Minister Ramsay said.

“It is no small decision to choose to serve our nation in this way and today we honour those Australians who have paid for that decision in any form.

“This year, I am grateful to represent all Canberrans at the ANZAC Day National Ceremony, where I will lay a wreath at the Australian War Memorial, honouring those who have served.

“As I share one minute’s silence today, I will be reflecting on sacrifice, but I will also be reflecting on the joy, peacefulness and prosperity our veterans have brought our nation.

“Lest we forget.”
