More events more often in 2020

Released 24/07/2019

The ACT Government has today confirmed a substantial investment of $500 000 to support and diversify Canberra’s growing events industry.

Minister for Arts and Cultural Events Gordon Ramsay said the investment would support and promote the positive economic, community and social outcomes that the events sector provides to the ACT.

“I am pleased to announce that applications are open for the 2020 round of the ACT Event Fund,” Minister Ramsay said.

“We’re rolling out this investment in our events sector because we recognise the positive impact events have on our community and their ability to increase tourism and visitation numbers.

“The ACT Event Fund supports eligible event organisers to develop, market and promote their events, which enables a vibrant, innovative events culture within the ACT and assists in developing a year-round events calendar for locals and visitors.”

The ACT Event Fund will offer the following opportunities for funding support:

Main Round

  • Tier 1: up to $15,000 for events seeking enhancement and growth.
  • Tier 2: from $15,001 to $30,000 for events that can demonstrate strong economic, social and community benefits.

Community Event Funding

  • To bring more events and vibrancy to our community town centres, the ACT Event Fund now also incorporates a Community Event Funding stream. This stream offers support of up to $15,000 for new or existing community events and festivals that are activated in suburbs and town centres (excluding the Canberra City centre and the Parliamentary Triangle).

“I believe community events are an essential ingredient for building a progressive and liveable city,” Minister Ramsay said.

“They play a key role in formulating and shaping Canberra’s personality, providing a variety of avenues for expressing creativity, capturing our interests and imagination, and reflecting a true sense of place.

“I encourage event organisers that are considering applying to the ACT Event Fund to review the funding guidelines and attend one of the available information sessions.”

The Main Round will remain open to applications until Monday 2 September 2019.

Applications for Community Event Funding will remain open and ongoing until the designated funding allocation has been exhausted.

Funding support under the ACT Event Fund 2020 is open to eligible events and festivals occurring in the 2020 calendar year.
