Australia Day bushfire relief concert

Released 22/01/2020

Canberrans are invited to be part of the 2020 Australia Day bushfire relief concert to help raise funds for organisations who support people impacted by this summer’s bushfire crisis.

In recognition of the damage caused by this summer’s bushfires, Canberra will not have a fireworks display this Australia Day.

Instead the Government is hosting a fundraiser relief concert so that the community can further contribute to the redevelopment of impacted communities and their natural environments.

Minister for the Arts, Creative Industries and Cultural Events Gordon Ramsay said that three well known and respected charities are being supported by the event and encouraged Canberrans to donate where they could.

“I’m pleased that the St Vincent de Paul’s Society, the Wildlife Rescue Service (WIRES) and Lifeline have been selected as the charities participating in Sunday’s event,” Minister Ramsay said.

“All of these charities have been partnering with the ACT Government to support the bushfire relief centre in Dickson and each charity supports the immediate Canberra region.

“This will be a fantastic day where Canberrans can come together and acknowledge the deep history of Australia and provide relief for communities impacted by the bushfires.”

The concert will occur at Stage 88 from 10am to 1pm and follows the national flag raising ceremony and citizenship ceremonies at Rond Terrace.

The fundraiser will feature bands such as Japanese Wallpaper, Nicole Millar and Sistas in Song as well as free amusement rides and food trucks.

Cash and electronic donations for all the charities will be taken on the day and online donations are able to be made at any time.

The ACT Government is committed to ensuring that our event is inclusive and respectful of all views, recognising that it is held on Ngunnawal land.
