Grants to preserve and showcase Canberra’s rich heritage

Released 30/08/2020

The ACT’s rich and unique heritage will be showcased and preserved through 21 new local projects with the support of Government grants.

Minister for the Environment and Heritage Mick Gentleman said the $376,251 worth of funding from the ACT Heritage Grants Program 2020-2021 will help tell the important stories of Canberra.

“We are providing grants to a wide range of projects to help support new tours, interpretive signage and the digitisation of our history. There are also projects that will conserve unique objects, street furniture, and private homes,” Minister Gentleman said.

“Projects include short films, development of a signage network in Lyneham to encourage pedestrians to take their own heritage walks, and conservation of the famed murals at the Free Serbian Orthodox Church in Forrest.

“All the projects celebrate Canberra’s wonderful heritage and will help preserve our local history for future generations.”
