New modern fitness equipment for popular Yarralumla outdoor gym

Released 30/08/2016

The fitness circuit along Alexandrina Drive in Yarralumla will be revamped with new outdoor fitness equipment to be chosen by the Canberra community.

“The Alexandrina Drive fitness circuit installed in 1983 was one of the original outdoor gyms in the ACT and is popular among the local community,” said Minister for Transport and City Services Meegan Fitzharris.

“The fitness circuit is over 20 years old. It is now at the end of its life cycle and it is time for it to be replaced. We want help from the community to select the new range of equipment.

“We are looking for people to nominate the types of fitness equipment to suit their preferred physical activities. You might undertake your cardio around Lake Burley Griffin and want the equipment to test strength and flexibility. Maybe you want a full body workout with a great view, or maybe you love the original equipment on the circuit and want similar new pieces installed.

“Feedback will also be sought on the layout of the fitness equipment. Your preference might be to keep the  current circuit set up, with equipment spread out individually around the lake, or you might like to see three or four stations that focus on a key area of fitness such as cardio, balance, flexibility and strength.

“To have your say on the design of the Yarralumla fitness equipment visit www.yoursay.act.gov.au and provide feedback via our online survey. Consultation closes Tuesday 11 October 2016.

“The ACT Government remains committed to delivering a healthy, active and vibrant Canberra under the Healthy Weight Initiative, with projects like this making it even easier to get active in Canberra’s great outdoors,” Minister Fitzharris concluded.
