Grants open for innovative health promotion projects

Released 13/08/2018

Applications are now open for new grants available under the Health Promotion Innovation Fund.

Minister for Health and Wellbeing Meegan Fitzharris said $100,000 worth of grants were available to trial smaller-scale, innovative health promotion projects.

“We’re looking for groups in our community with ideas about how to support healthy ageing, reduce smoking and alcohol-related harm and to reduce rates of overweight and obesity through improving eating habits and increasing physical activity,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“In the ACT, 80 per cent of the burden of disease and injury is caused by chronic conditions, and we know that smoking and alcohol-related harm and overweight and obesity are significant contributors to this, as is an ageing population.

“We want to see applications from community-based groups, school communities and not-for-profit organisations to deliver innovative health promotion projects of up to $15,000 to address these risk factors.”

The grants are available to support projects of up to 12 months duration that will be delivered from February 2019.

Minister Fitzharris said the key element the Government was looking for in assessing grant applications was innovation.

“We are looking for projects that are not just business as usual,” Minister Fitzharris said.

“The Government is particularly interested in projects that test or pilot new processes, technologies or knowledge to deliver improved health outcomes in our community.”

Applications for the Health Promotion Innovation Fund close on Friday 21 September 2018.
