Calvary Public Hospital has a newly refurbished maternity ward, offering an excellent option for Canberra’s mothers-to-be to deliver their babies in the public system.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Meegan Fitzharris officially unveiled the $2.6 million upgrade of the maternity ward today – a refurbishment funded by the ACT Government.
“Ensuring Canberra women have comfortable, modern and accessible maternity and birthing facilities is critical to providing timely and suitable service delivery for expectant mothers,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“The ACT Government has invested in the refurbishment of Calvary’s maternity ward so that women on the Northside of Canberra can choose a place to deliver their baby closer to home and in the public system.
“This is particularly important as we plan for the continuing population growth and demographics of Gungahlin, West Belconnen and the Molonglo areas.
“Birthing is one of those moments in life when you want everything around you just right and that’s what we have delivered at Calvary – a place where new mums can enjoy those first moments with their newborn.”
The $2.6 million upgrade of the Calvary maternity ward has delivered:
- an expanded capacity to 18 beds;
- a reconfigured Maternity Unit that now has 10 single rooms and four very large twin rooms;
- an intimate patient and family lounge and a spacious baby assessment room;
- enhanced facilities for partners who want to stay at the hospital; and
- completely redecorated patient and public areas to create a colourful and contemporary feel for the unit.
“I am extremely confident that women and families will be delighted by the new facility, and I’m also pleased to announce that Calvary will be updating its birthing suite as well,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“I’d encourage women planning to start a family to consider Calvary Public Hospital, which offers a high standard of care in a new modern ward,” said Minister Fitzharris.
Tours of Calvary Public Hospital’s maternity ward are conducted every Sunday at 2:30pm.
