Town centre to come alive for the Gungahlin Community Festival

Released 19/10/2018

We’re just one sleep away from the Gungahlin Community Festival, where local Gungahlin businesses and community groups will be putting on a show and bringing the town centre to life.

The Festival is on tomorrow, Saturday 20 October 2018, from 12 pm to 7 pm in the Gungahlin Town Centre and is an opportunity to thank local businesses and the Gungahlin community for their patience as construction has been underway in the town centre.

“I encourage everyone to come down to the town centre this Saturday for the Gungahlin Community Festival,” said Minister for Transport, Meegan Fitzharris.

“It’s a real community event with plenty of food, activities and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. The Festival will be spread out down Gungahlin Place and in the new shared zone on Hibberson Street, showing exactly the kind of activation events that are possible in the new space.

“You’ll find a number of stalls along Gungahlin Place near the bus station with the majority being local traders from the town centre including BOOK FACE, Sportsmans Warehouse, Prodigy Performance Nutrition, Liberty National and more.

“A range of activities will take place throughout the day including a community art wall, MollyCoddle face painting and glitter tattoos, pot a plant and stilt walkers will provide roaming entertainment and that festival atmosphere.”

Two stages will be in action on the day with one providing a more relaxed atmosphere and another with interactive performances encouraging crowd involvement.

“All day from 12 pm to 7 pm we’ve got entertainment for all ages across the two stages.

“The community stage located on Gungahlin Place will have a number of local community groups to get the crowd up and out of their seats including Kulture Break, Jumptown and Wiradjuri Echoes. At the local stage you can relax with food and beverages provided by the Gungahlin Club and Cornerstone Pub and local musicians including MAXO, Alec Randles and Bill Olsen.

“It’s a festival for the community that has been shaped by the community. Thank you to everyone that has been involved in its planning, particularly the local businesses.

“So gather your friends and family and come enjoy a day out in the Gungahlin Town Centre. I look forward to seeing you there,” concluded Minister Fitzharris.

Minister Fitzharris will open the event at 12 pm on Saturday 20 October from the Community Stage, located on Gungahlin Place.
