The ACT Government has today announced Tresillian Family Care Centres as the new service provider of the Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Family Centre.
Minister for Health and Wellbeing Meegan Fitzharris said the announcement followed a thorough tender process, with Tresillian to commence delivery of services from 1 July 2019, following a month-long transition that will commence next week.
“I am pleased to announce Tresillian Family Care Centres as the new provider at QEll,” Minister Fitzharris said.
“The services provided at QEll have had a positive impact on so many Canberrans over a long period of time, so ensuring continuity of a quality service has been the government’s focus.
“With over 100 years of experience and Tresillian’s expertise providing these specialised services in other jurisdictions, this is a great outcome for our community. And Canberra families can feel confident they will continue to get wonderful support at QEII.
“With the tender process now complete, the focus is now on achieving a seamless transition from one provider to another, ensuring no disruption for those families currently using the service. As part of this, there will be a month-long transition process that will take place throughout June.”
Tresillian is a non-for-profit organisation that assists close to 60,000 Australian families each year, helping parents gain confidence in their new roles as mums and dads by teaching new parents about routines in breastfeeding, sleep, settling and nutrition.
Tresillian already delivers residential family services at Canterbury, Willoughby and Nepean inpatient Residential Units for families with more complex parenting issues. They also deliver a range of day services, parents help line and live advice service.
Tresillian CEO, Robert Mills said “we look forward to continuing the great work of the Canberra Mothercraft Society (CMS) at QEII by providing families in the ACT with much needed early parenting support services.
“Of course, the high quality of care at QEII is directly attributable to the skills and caring nature of the staff working at QEII and we will be working closely with the staff during the next four weeks to ensure there is a seamless transition.”
In announcing the new service provider Minister Fitzharris also thanked the CMS for the significant contribution they have made to the Canberra community over decades.
“I would like to take this opportunity to again thank CMS welcome their continued and ongoing service to families through their Community Development Programs.”

While QEII will continue to accept new clients and provide the same types and level of service throughout the transition period and beyond, there will be a short break in service over the weekend commencing 29 June 2019, to allow for completion of lease related arrangements.
QEII has been supporting families in Canberra since 1963. It is a public hospital providing residential primary health care programs for families with young children (0-3 years) experiencing complex health and behavioural difficulties in the postnatal and early childhood periods.
CMS’ intention to cease services at QEII was announced in April 2019.
