Released 13/06/2019 - Joint media release

Membership of the ACT’s new Clinical Leadership Forum was announced today, bringing together a highly reputable team of clinical experts to help steer the continuous improvement of Canberra’s health system.

The Clinical Leadership Forum will be responsible for providing independent and expert clinical advice to ACT Government ministers, with the aim of contributing to the continuous improvement of a high performing health system that keeps people well and delivers the best care in an industry-leading workplace.

“The Clinical Leadership Forum will provide expert advice direct to ministers, including on new health challenges and opportunities, ensuring our health system is sustainable and can attract the best and brightest staff, as well as have input into health planning and infrastructure.” Said Minister for Health and Wellbeing Meegan Fitzharris

“It will also be informed and guided by the recommendations of the Culture Review and advise ministers where cultural improvements are required to improve clinical operations.

“I want to congratulate the seven members appointed to the Clinical Leadership Forum, which will be chaired by ANU Dean of Medicine, Professor Imogen Mitchell. I look forward to working with all members and receiving their advice on how we can continue to improve the health system,” Minister Fitzharris said.

Minister for Mental Health Shane Rattenbury thanked everyone who had made an expression of interest for the Clinical Leadership Forum.

“I want to sincerely thank all the clinicians who expressed interest in joining the Clinical Leadership Forum.

“The Forum will provide an important opportunity to hear directly from experts in health and to develop strategies that address challenges that affect our workforce and improve our services, and I’m particularly pleased to see mental health expertise included in the Forum’s membership to bring that unique perspective,” said Minister Rattenbury.

The new Chair of the Clinical Leadership Forum, Professor Imogen Mitchell, said it is an enormous privilege to be appointed the Chair of the Clinical Leadership Forum and be part of a group of extraordinary clinicians.

“We will provide frank and fearless, independent and expert advice to the ministers on clinical matters to strengthen our healthcare system to deliver the best care and be a great place to work,” Professor Mitchell said.

The new Clinical Leadership Forum will meet quarterly.
