Uncover your Canberra this Walk and Ride Week

This year’s Canberra Walk and Ride Week will be bigger and better than ever before, with a range of events over the next ten days including the Big Canberra Bike Ride this weekend.

During Walk and Ride Week (1-10 March) Canberrans are encouraged to discover something new about their local community by walking, riding or catching public transport.

“The theme for Canberra Walk and Ride Week this year is ‘Uncover your Canberra’ recognising that a large proportion of trips people make are within their local community,” said Minister for Transport Meegan Fitzharris.

“We challenge all Canberrans to break the habit of reaching for the car keys and try using other modes of transport during this week, and check out some of the great events that are on.

“We’re really lucky in Canberra to have great infrastructure and a bike riding culture that is great fun to be a part of. Our bikeshare scheme is just one of the ways you can try a bike during this week.”

Transport Canberra has a list of activities on during Canberra Walk and Ride Week, which also kicks off the ACTSmart Change Your Mode for March Eco Challenge.

The 2019 Canberra Walk and Ride Week program includes:

  • Pedal Power’s Big Canberra Bike Ride, Sunday 3 March
  • Pedal Power’s Cycle Works Challenge launch, Tuesday 5 March
  • National Arboretum Forest walk, events throughout the week
