Today it was my pleasure to present the 2017 YOGIE Awards hosted by the Youth Coalition of the ACT. The YOGIES celebrate community organisations and individuals who support and advocate for young people.

The YOGIES recognise, celebrate, promote and reward outstanding practice in working with young people in Canberra and the surrounding region. The YOGIES also highlight the exceptional commitment, talent and innovation that exists in the youth sector.

This year’s awards were recognised across nine categories:

  • Outstanding Achievement in Youth Participation: LGBTQIA* & Allies Prom 2017, YWCA Canberra
  • Innovation in Service Delivery: Canberra PCYC Intensive Diversion Program
  • Excellence in Research and Evaluation: Research to Practice Series, Institute of Child Protection Studies
  • Outstanding Youth Worker: Richie Unga, St Johns YouthCare
  • Canberra Youth Work Champion: Daniel Gaffney, Belconnen Community Service
  • Outstanding New Talent: Olivia Hatfield, Anglicare
  • Lifetime Achievement: Fiona MacGregor
  • Outstanding Contribution to Young People: Umair Qureshi, Anglicare YEP
  • Staff Acknowledgement: Families ACT

I congratulate the winners and all who were nominated for their outstanding achievements in working with young people in the Canberra community.
