Congratulations to the six young Canberrans who have been appointed as new members to the Youth Advisory Council. The Youth Advisory Council helps inform the ACT Government on issues important to young people in our community.

The Youth Advisory Council comprises 15 young people, aged between 12 and 25 years, who are committed to taking a lead role on issues that affect young people in the ACT. The new Council members will serve a term of up to two years.

Membership of the Council reflects the diversity of young people in the ACT community, including gender balance, people with disability, people from culturally linguistically and diverse backgrounds and representation from the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community.
The new members are:

  • Ms Sukanya Ananth;
  • Ms Dhani Gilbert;
  • Mr Ngalan Gilbert;
  • Mr Liam Jones;
  • Ms Grace Kemp; and
  • Mr James Morgan.

Ms Natasha Tioukavkin, an existing Council member, has also been appointed as Co-Chair of the Council for a one year term. Ms Tioukavkin joins Mr Issac Martin as Co-chair.

I am looking forward to meeting with the new Council and learning about the issues the new members will be championing on behalf of young Canberrans.

I thank everyone who nominated for a position on the Council and encourage them to stay engaged in youth affairs in the ACT.

I also thank the six outgoing members for their hard work and commitment to the Council for the period of their term and wish them well in their future endeavours.
