Nineteen proposals showcasing a range of housing solutions including co-housing, micro homes, compact units and affordable housing have been selected to progress to the next stage of the Demonstration Housing project.

Canberra has a proud history of innovative housing solutions and I am excited to see the Demonstration Housing project advance to the next stage. This project will not only bring world class design to our suburbs, it will enable new and innovative ways of ensuring our community has quality homes for a growing city in a changing climate.

Through the Demonstration Housing project, the ACT Government is engaging with the community and industry stakeholders on how best to deliver housing demonstration that supports best practice design, including:

  • excellence in design quality;
  • carbon neutral buildings;
  • medium density infill;
  • innovative planning and engagement approaches;
  • innovative housing projects and typologies;
  • close partnership with industry bodies; and
  • options for public and affordable housing.

Increased housing choice is an integral part of the ACT Government’s priority of best practice urban renewal creating viable, safe and attractive communities. This project aims to showcase how innovative planning, design and delivery can benefit Canberra’s future through a more compact and vibrant city.
