ACT Youth Week grants for 2020 are now open

Released 10/09/2019

The ACT Government has opened the 2020 Youth Week Grants program to assist groups of young people to organise events for other young people in the ACT during Youth Week.

Grants of up to $2000 are available to new and innovative projects that enable young people aged 12 - 25 years old to lead and participate in community development activities targeted for other young people in Canberra and the surrounding region.

Projects could include:

  • Building supportive connections between community members using sport, recreation, cultural and creative activities and events;
  • Organising and running events;
  • Increasing opportunities for young people to participate in local community events, activities and youth related causes;
  • Recognising the contribution that young people make to their local communities; and
  • Increasing opportunities for young people through the development of leadership skills, project management skills, networking encounters plus team work, communication and decision-making skills.

These grants have provided valuable contributions to the community in previous years. 2018 Youth Week grant recipient Hawker College received a grant to host an outdoor event for young people to socialise and meet new people in a safe and fun environment.

"Obtaining a Youth Week Grant allowed students to host an outdoor movie night at Hawker College. Students were engaged and took ownership of running a major event which created a sense of belonging, purpose and pride in their achievements," said Jo-Ann Low, Hawker College

Minister for Children, Youth and Families Rachel Stephen-Smith said "the ACT Government is pleased to support and celebrate the contribution of young people in our community. I encourage interested applicants who share this vision to apply for a grant."

The 2020 ACT Youth Week will be a week-long celebration of young people aged 12 - 25 years, taking place from Friday 27 March 2020 to Sunday 5 April 2020.

Applications close at midday, Monday 28 October 2019.
