Are you a health professional or do you work in a team who has a great example of improving patient safety or quality of a health service? If so, the Health Directorate wants to hear from you!
Nominations are now open for the 2019 ACT Quality in Healthcare Awards.
Now in their 17th year, the annual awards celebrate health professionals and teams making significant positive contributions to the ACT health sector.
Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said the awards are an excellent opportunity for staff to showcase examples of best practice and to celebrate the great work that is achieved across our health services.
"Every day our doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and administrators come to work in our hospitals and health facilities to provide the best possible care to our community.
"These are services that all of us rely on and that are delivered by people whose hard work is worth celebrating.
"I encourage Canberra's health professionals to put forward examples of their work that make a difference to quality, safety and patient outcomes by nominating today."
ACT Chief Medical Officer Dr Dinesh Arya, said the awards were a great way of recognising the tireless effort of staff across the health system to do things better.
"As a health professional, the desire to continually improve our clinical practice and ensure the best outcomes for our patients is something that is simply ingrained in us," Dr Arya said.
"For me, it is not only about who gets the award. It is about recognising each and every person who made the effort to first think "how can I do things better?", and then did something about it.
"I am really looking forward to seeing all the submissions that will come in through the nomination process. It is just a wonderful opportunity to learn from your colleagues – people who have methodically and systematically managed projects and implemented successful improvements that are making a huge difference to the community. That is really what these awards are about."
Nominations will be judged by a selection panel of health professionals from public and private health services and consumer representatives, across five award categories:
- person-centred;
- safety;
- effectiveness;
- efficiency; and
- student.
Nominations for this year's awards are open until 15 September 2019 with winners to be announced in December 2019.
