The new Clinical Leadership Forum is expanding from seven to ten members, with expressions of interest now open for an Allied Health Professional, a consumer representative and a junior doctor to join the Forum.
The Clinical Leadership Forum provides expert advice to both the Minister for Health and Minister for Mental Health in the ACT, with the aim of contributing to the continuous improvement of a high performing health system that provides the best care to patients and an industry-leading workplace.
Expanding the membership to include the clinical expertise of an Allied Health Professional, as well as a junior doctor and consumer representative, will provide even greater insights about the sector, with the Forum also increasing the frequency of meetings from quarterly to a meeting every two months, acknowledging the big agenda ahead.
Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith welcomed the expansion of Clinical Leadership Forum.
"One of the key findings from the Culture Review was the need to improve clinician engagement in system-wide policy and planning.
"This is a critical time for our health system, as we implement the recommendations of the Culture Review, continue planning for the modernisation of Canberra Hospital with the biggest single investment in health infrastructure since self-government, and work to create stronger partnerships with our local universities.
"The Clinical Leadership Forum provides an invaluable opportunity for myself and the Minister for Mental Health to engage directly with clinicians on a regular basis about these and other important issues," said Minister Stephen-Smith.
Chair of the Clinical Leadership Forum Professor Imogen Mitchell encouraged people with relevant qualifications and expertise to lodge an expression of interest and to become a part of a team of experts that is set to influence the way forward for clinical health services across the ACT.
"The Forum is a great opportunity to be involved in the development ways to address the challenges affecting the health system and to improve services for the Canberra community, and I encourage interested people to apply," Professor Mitchell said.
"Utilising the clinical expertise we have, and combining this with an understanding of the consumer experience and perspective on health services, the Forum will provide frank and fearless, independent and expert advice to the ministers," Professor Mitchell said.
Applications for the EOI process are due by 14 October 2019.

The Chair of the Clinical Leadership Forum, Professor Imogen Mitchell, is a Senior Staff Specialist in intensive care medicine at Canberra Health Services and the Dean of Medicine at the Australian National University.
