Makeover completed for Dickson Pool forecourt

Released 19/11/2019

Dickson Pool visitors and local residents will enjoy a new outdoor space this summer with the official unveiling of temporary improvements at the pool forecourt.

Minister for Urban Renewal Rachel Stephen-Smith said these improvements were informed by community feedback during the engagement on the urban renewal of Section 72 in Dickson.

“We heard clearly from the community that there was an opportunity to upgrade this space, making it an area where people can gather and enjoy themselves, whether they are coming to use the pool or walking through to Dickson shops.

“We now have an area with wonderful artwork, shade, bike parking and more seating. This has created a welcome, engaging space for the whole community to use.”

New pavement art complements the pool’s identity and mid-century history. Four large deciduous trees have been transplanted from a nearby site to provide shade, as part of a tree transplant demonstration project.

Residents, pool users and surrounding businesses are encouraged to provide feedback on the improvements through an online survey. Feedback gathered from the survey will help to inform future improvements to the site.

“This temporary makeover will allow us to test ideas and hear from the community on what they love and what they would like to see more of.

“We have already had positive feedback from residents and the Dickson Pool team. This is a great addition to Dickson, and I am sure it will a very popular space over summer,” said Minister Stephen-Smith.

“We love that already our community is enjoying the space and spending time there on their way to the pool, shops, school and moving through the Dickson precinct.

“As we head into another hot summer, the shade from the magnificent trees already make the area at the front of the pool a more pleasant place to be.

“The trees, gardens, artwork and seating extend the playful, fun, yet relaxing space that our community loves inside the pool grounds, out into the forecourt.

“It has really turned an area that people used to rush through into a space where can stop for a while.

“This project has been a great collaboration between our business and the ACT Government to achieve a great outcome for the community in a short time frame.”
