Individuals, community groups and owners corporations are invited to apply for a share of $40,000 in funding available under the 2018 Community Garden grants program, Minister for Climate Change and Sustainability Shane Rattenbury announced today.
“Community gardens have been hugely successful across Canberra and tell a great story about our increasingly sustainable city. When we work together, sharing resources and responsibility, we all share the rewards,” Minister Rattenbury said.
“This grants program has already supported 21 projects, including a community orchard, a community garden within a multi-unit development and a garden that provides food to the disadvantaged.
“Canberra is a sharing city and community gardens address so many of the ACT Government’s priorities: supporting sustainable and healthy living, social inclusion and community engagement.
“Community gardens bring people together and provide opportunities to get outside, get exercise and share more healthy food.
“This is the fourth time we’re running this grants program and the second time that Canberrans in units and townhouses are eligible, so I encourage interested owners corporations to apply, as well as other residents and groups across Canberra.
“Community gardens are enriching the lives of countless people, while contributing to our city’s climate change resilience and strengthening local communities. I look forward to seeing the applications that come forward this year,” Mr Rattenbury said.
